DPRK Ambassador calls on Speaker Ghimire

KATHMANDU: Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea)’s ambassador to Nepal, Jo Yong Man, paid a courtesy on House of Representatives (HoR) Speaker Devraj Ghimire at latter’s office in Singha Durbar Thursday.

During the meeting, the two exchanged views on the further enhancement of the Nepal-North Korea ties and the exchange of parliamentary-level visits between the two countries.

The Speaker recalled the parliamentary visits took place between the two countries in the past, saying that he was happy to know about the formation of North Korea-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Korean parliament.

Such kind of group would be formed in Nepal soon, he added. He apprised the ambassador that Nepal was closely watching current developments on the Korean peninsulas, adding that Nepal always wished to see peace, unity, harmony and stability in the Korean nations.

He pressed an idea of establishing the people-to-people relations between the two countries through a parliamentary channel. The ambassador informed the Speaker that the North Korean legislature Supreme People’s Assembly was formulating laws for the protection of citizens’ rights.

As he said, it has ensured children’s right to free education with the endorsement of a law concerning children.

Nepal and DPRK established diplomatic ties in 1974 and since then they observe friendly relations.
