Gandaki CM Adhikari fails to garner vote of confidence

Gandaki Chief Minister Khagraj Adhikari has been relieved of his post after failing to garner the mandatory support in the vote of confidence motion tabled in the Gandaki Province Assembly on Saturday.

The majority of lawmakers rejected his request for a vote of confidence.

24 lawmakers including 22 lawmakers from CPN-UML and 2 from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) supported the motion of confidence proposed by Chief Minister Adhikari.

Govt committed to ensure social justice, good governance: PM

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the incumbent government was determined to achieve the goals of social justice, good governance, and prosperity through the effective implementation of rights guaranteed by the constitution.

It was the responsibility of the state to strengthen national sovereignty and self-esteem through strong national unity and the implementation of rights guaranteed by the constitution, said the PM in a message of best wishes today on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

EC asks all concerned for making by-election management efficient

The Election Commission has directed the bodies concerned to make the management of by-elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) members efficient.

The by-election is taking place in Chitwan-2, Bara-1 and Tanahu-1 on April 23.

The EC issued the directives in order to hold the by-election in a free, fearless, and impartial manner.

Clash in Biratnagar, police fire tear gas

The police took to firing tear gas during the clash between the agitating parties demanding the renaming of the province and the police on Saturday afternoon.

The clash took place after the police blocked the traffic by marking the road in front of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers’ office as a prohibited area.

The police said that the clash broke out after the protesting party breached the prohibited area. The police fired tear gas and batons during the clash on the road 200 meters north of the Chief Minister’s office.

Nepal sees 78 new coronavirus cases, one death in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 78 new cases of coronavirus and one death in the past 24 hours as of Saturday.

Of the confirmed cases, 20 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 58 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,148 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
