Minister Kirati’s controversial statement sparks outcry in Parliamentary Committee meeting

KATHMANDU: Tensions flared in a parliamentary committee meeting as members voiced strong opposition to the contentious remarks made by Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kirati.

During Thursday session of the International Relations and Tourism Committee, Minister Kirati’s statement asserting that “opposing Christianity equates to opposing the Constitution and warrants restraining those who dissent” drew sharp criticism and protests.

Member of Parliament Dhawal Shumsher Rana issued a warning, holding the government accountable for the fallout resulting from Minister Kirati’s inflammatory remarks.

MP Rana insisted that Minister Kirati should publicly apologize for making statements that could incite conflict, and the government should seek clarification on the matter.

Addressing Minister Kirati directly during the meeting, MP Rana stated, “Your expression has sown the seeds of conflict. An apology is warranted. The government must address and clarify your statements.”
