KATHMANDU: Judges Janak Pandey and Prakash Kharel are set to conduct the hearing of a petition filed by the accused individuals involved in the Fake Bhutanese Refugee Case on Tuesday.

Earlier, 16 accused individuals, including former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, had filed a writ petition against the government’s decision to send them to pre-trial detention.

The accused had filed the petition claiming the government’s decision to be flawed.

Former Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former parliamentarian Angtawa Sherpa, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rizal, former chairman of the Hajj committee Shamsher Miya, and advisor to the then Home Minister Indrajit Rai, among others, are currently in custody awaiting trial.

Despite scheduled times, the court was previously unable to conduct a hearing on the case.
The accused are currently in custody for allegedly attempting to turn Nepali citizens into Bhutanese refugees with the intention of sending them to the United States.
