UML to challenge Koshi CM Thapa in Court, citing constitutional concerns

BIRATNAGAR: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, is set to initiate legal proceedings once again against Uddhav Thapa, the Chief Minister of Koshi Province.

Chief Minister Thapa secured a vote of confidence on Monday, thanks to the backing of Israel Mansuri, who presided over the provincial assembly.

Nonetheless, the UML contends that obtaining a vote of confidence by incorporating the vote of the legislator presiding over the province assembly violates the constitution. In response, the party has announced its intention to seek legal recourse.

Hikmat Karki, former chief minister and leader of the UML parliamentary faction, asserted, “We are compelled to resort to legal action in order to safeguard the integrity of the constitution.”

“The disregard for legal protocols and the erosion of parliamentary decorum has reached unprecedented levels,” Karki remarked, expressing his dismay at the situation.

The political landscape is now poised for another round of legal confrontations, as the UML takes on the task of upholding constitutional principles amidst the unfolding debate.
