KATHMANDU: The election for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) is underway in House of Representatives building at New Baneshwor.
Earlier, the newly elected Speaker Devraj Ghimire called an all party meeting to discuss about the issue on Saturday morning.
Rastriya Swatantra Party’s (RSP) lawmaker Indira Rana Magar has registered her nomination at the Parliament Secretariat for the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) on behalf of the ruling coalition.
Similarly, Nepali Congress lawmaker Mukta Kumari Yadav has also filed her nomination for the post of Deputy Speaker. Yadav is backed by Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN-Unified Socialist and Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party lawmakers.
The HoR meeting held on Thursday elected CPN-UML lawmaker Devraj Ghimire as the Speaker.
Ghimire was elected as the HoR Speaker on Thursday. Out of the total 268 lawmakers present on Thursday, Ghimire got 167 votes from lawmakers of CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janta Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and 3 independent lawmakers.
