Teachers rally in Maitighar against Education Bill 2080

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation voiced their opposition to the proposed amendments and consolidation of laws governing school education outlined in Education Bill 2080.

The Federation organized a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu, on Wednesday urging the parliament not to pass the current version of the bill.

The teachers’ demonstration came in response to the government’s refusal to engage in dialogue.

The Federation contends that the Ministry of Education’s offer for discussions lacks credibility.

Teachers representing relief, contract, child development, and permanent teaching staff from all 77 districts converged in Kathmandu to participate in the protest.

The Federation has expressed disagreement with 18 specific provisions within the bill, including demands related to transfers, promotions, demotions, and exemption from local municipality jurisdiction.

The Federation’s actions are expected to have a widespread impact on the education system nationwide.
