Stakeholders call for enriching School Education Bill, 2080

KATHMANDU: Stakeholders have stressed the need for enriching the School Education Bill, 2080 by taking advice from experts.

In a dialogue with the theme of ‘the School Education Bill, 2080: Concerns of Stakeholders’ organized here on the occasion of the 18th Establishment Day of the Democratic Professors Association Nepal (DEPAN)), speakers called for ensuring vocational and scientific education in the Education Bill.

Saying that the bill’s not going for parliamentary process now poses the risk of its postponement, educationalist Bidya Nath Koirala underscored the need for getting the bill endorsed soon by adding the remaining issues in it.

“The Professors’ Debate Forum should advocate concluding the act after consulting with constitution and legal experts,” he said. He also ruled out politicization in the education sector.

Stating that vocational education has been limited to only slogan, he emphasized policy reforms in the timely technology-friendly vocational and scientific education.

Similarly, accusing that the bill was taken forward unilaterally without consulting with the Federation, President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation Kamala Tuladhar called for specifying the next strategic goal and purpose of education in the bill.

Chairperson of the Community School Management Committee Federation of Nepal Gunaraj Moktan viewed that the bill should accommodate the issue of the examination evaluation system.

Meanwhile, in a message of best wishes on the occasion, the DEPAN former President Prof Dr. Kul Prasad Koirala stressed the need for the DEPAN to regularly organize its convention to make it much more active and responsible for the implementation of its statute and enhance educational activities.
