Birgunj Metropolis launches demolition drive to remove illegal structures

BIRGUNJ: The Birgunj Metropolitan City has started pulling down structures, private houses, and business and institution buildings built by encroaching on the public land.

The metropolis demolished the buildings housing Classic Hotel and Corporate Bank after they ignored its repeated call to remove the structures, said the metropolis mayor Rajesh Man Singh.

They built the structures by the main drain of the city. Under the demolition drive that was in line with the Civil Code, 2074 BS (1) (A), structures built by taking control of the land along the drain are being removed as a cleanup campaign in the area has started, he said.

The demolition team of the metropolis employees led by the ward 5 Chairperson Pradip Chaurasiya, also the coordinator of the public structure encroachment control committee formed by the metropolis has been deployed.
