Kathmandu Mayor Sah inspects community schools

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Sah has inspected community schools within the metropolis.

Sah on Friday visited Shivapuri Secondary School, Maharajgunj and Padma Kanya Secondary School, Dillibazaar, and took stock of teaching and learning methods and vocational skills, it has been said. As part of it, he last week inspected Durbar High School.

It may be noted that Sah has been prioritizing reforms and development in education since assuming office. On his part, he on every Fridays is scheduled to sit with students and chat about educational activities.

“We on Friday morning inspected Shivapuri Secondary School in Kathmandu. I got an opportunity to sit with students and learn about educational activities through the ‘skill-based program. I also got an opportunity to learn about the participation of students and teachers through the ‘book free Friday’ program. During the inspection, I also took an opportunity to learn about the impacts of the skill-based program on the future of children. I have taken information about the current situation of the school, required infrastructures, human resources and other needs for the school for the holistic development of children”, he opined.

The KMC launched the book-free Friday program on 25 April 2023. There are a total of 89 community schools operating within the KMC (59 secondary and 30 primary) where at least 52,000 children have been enrolled, according to available data.

Similarly, 540 private schools are in operation where at least 150,000 children have been enrolled.
