Maoist Center holding meeting of office bearers today

To finalize its position on Presidential candidate

KATHMANDU: The ruling Maoist Center is holding a meeting of its office bearers to discuss and finalize its position on the country’s President.

Even though the party has decided to hold its office bearers’ meeting, the time has not been decided.

The Maoist Center has been insisting on electing the President on the basis of consensus.

However, another ruling partner, the CPN-UML, has said it would field a candidate for the post of President.

Leaders of the Maoist Center have said the party would support a candidate only on the basis of consensus.

Maoist Center leader Dev Gurung, on Sunday, said a common individual would be an appropriate candidate for the new President.

General Secretary Gurung viewed a common candidate rather than a party representative was needed for the President.

“NC and UML have planned to field candidacies for the President, but it is the post for the common person that understands well the spirit of constitution and democracy by rising above party stand,” he said.
