KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has sent a letter to the Police Headquarters inquiring about the non-arrest of CPN-UML parliamentarian Laxmi Mahato Koiri.

MP Koiri is an absconding accused in the murder of police assistant sub-inspector, Asai Thaman BK, of the Armed Police.

Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s Press Adviser Navraj Pandey said that a written letter was sent from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the name of Police Head Office.

It may be noted that Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada had raised the issue drawing Home Minister Lamichhane’s attention to this regard during the House of Representatives meeting.

Home Minister Lamichhane then responded that the Home Ministry would follow the rules and procedures.

Koiri was present at the Parliament meeting to give a vote of confidence to the Prime Minister but was absent on the day of the Speaker’s election.

Koiri is an elected Member of Parliament from Mahottari Constituency-1.

On September 11, 2015, during the Madhes movement, ASI BK of the Armed Police was killed by an ambulance while being taken to Janakpur for treatment.

In that case, the District Court Mahottari ordered Koiri to be released on a bond of Rs 1 lakh.

But the Janakpur High Court ordered Koiri to be detained and investigated. But Koiri has not been arrested yet.
