KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has complained that the quality of the education provided in public schools has been deteriorating of late.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Deuba said that despite the government data showing that 97 percent of teachers have received training, there is a question mark on the quality.

She mentioned that 17 public schools in the Dhangadhi sub-metropolis had zero results in the results of the basic level examination conducted a few days ago.

Dr. Deuba also expressed concern on the declining number of students enrolling in the universities in Nepal.

She stressed on the need to ensure good governance and enforce continuous assessment systems more effectively to improve the quality of basic and secondary-level education.

“There has been a lot of politicization in the formation and operation of the school management committee,” Dr. Deuba said, adding, “Therefore, the guidelines should be updated to change the working style of the committee.”

She urged the government to make effective and more realistic policies to improve the quality of education.
