KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reiterated that the government emphasised basic reforms for good governance.

For this, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has taken positive steps, he said in a meeting with a team of the Ministry including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha at the official residence of Prime Minister in Baluwatar today.

The government stressed the expansion of development activities, reforms and promptness in administrative work, and this would yield positive results, he expressed the hope.

“There is a need to have a right viewpoint toward development. For this, the government is at work to amend acts and laws,” he said.

All state organs and levels should be committed and coordinate to drive the country on the path to development and prosperity, he said.

“The incumbent government is committed to achieve the goals of social justice, good governance and prosperity. So, there should be coordination and resolution in this regard,” he said.

On the occasion, he also praised the efforts of the Transport Ministry to address day-to-day problems of people through a taskforce involving experts.

The Ministry has formed an infrastructure development system reform taskforce led by Prof Dr Surya Raj Acharya, a whole transport reform study taskforce led by former secretary Sharad Chandra Paudel, and a good governance reform suggestion taskforce led by Prof Dr Rajendra Prasad Adhikari.

DPM Shrestha said the Ministry had carried out many reforms in the physical infrastructure and transport to keep up with the PM’s goal to take a quality stride in development activities alongside social justice and pursue socialism-oriented prosperity while providing immediate and long term reliefs to people. For this, amendment of many acts and laws are in need, he said.

On the occasion, the taskforce leaders Dr Acharya and Paudel offered a briefing about priority subjects of the taskforces to PM Dahal.
