UML’s Devraj Ghimire elected HoR Speaker

Devraj Ghimire, leader of ruling CPN-UML, is now the official Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR). Ghimire was elected as the HoR Speaker on Thursday. Out of the total 268 lawmakers present on Thursday, Ghimire got 167 votes from lawmakers of CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janta Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and 3 independent lawmakers.

HoR to elect Deputy Speaker on January 21

The election for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) will be held on Saturday, January 21. Senior member of the HoR Pashupati Shumsher Rana on Thursday said that the House of Representatives will meet at 1 pm on Saturday to elect the Deputy Speaker.

Lumbini Chief Minister Giri secures vote of confidence

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Leela Giri has secured a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Thursday. He received 57 votes in favor while 28 votes were cast against the vote of confidence. Members of Provincial Assembly of eight political parties and two independent members voted in favor of Giri.

NC leader Poudel holds talks with PM Dahal at Baluwatar

Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel reached Baluwatar on Thursday morning to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. According to Poudel’s Secretariat, Prime Minister Dahal and Poudel discussed current political events, including the election of Speaker, among other issues.

Ministry of Finance issues directives to minimize expenses

The Ministry of Finance has instructed all the subordinate departments to minimize expenses. The Ministry issued a 17-point instruction through concerning minimizing expenditure in line with the government’s Common Minimum Program (CMP).

Police arrest three persons with 713 passports

The Kathmandu Police have held three persons with 731 passports from Gongabu in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26. A team from Gongabu Police Sector acting on a tip off made the arrest from two hotels in Gongabu, and confiscated the passports from them, according to the police headquarters.

Karnali govt forms taskforce for youth employment

Karnali provincial government has formed a taskforce to make a plan for youth employment. The meeting chaired by Chief Minister of the province Raj Kumar Sharma at the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers formed the five-member taskforce coordinated by Shyam Krishna Thapa, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning.

Government serious on aviation safety: Minister Kirati

Minister for Tourism, Sudan Kirati, said that the government has made arrangements for mandatorily conducting technical examination of aircraft operating domestic flights. “CAAN and other bodies concerned have been directed to take all possible measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the coming days,” the Civil Aviation Minister said, adding that the government is serious on rendering the air service safe and reliable.

Bir Hospital launches cath lab, Health Minister insists on quality services

The COVID-19 Unified (Bir Hospital) has launched cath lab facilities. Minister for Health and Population, Padam Giri, inaugurated the service today. The catheterization lab commonly known as the cath lab is meant for various kinds of cardiac tests and other related procedures.
