Koshi NC holding Parliamentary Party meeting

BIRATNAGAR: The Nepali Congress (NC) Koshi Province Parliamentary Party (PP) finds itself at a crossroads today as Koshi Province Chief Minister Kedar Karki gears up for a crucial vote of confidence, triggering intense internal debates and power struggles within the party.

In an unexpected turn of events, the party, reeling from Karki’s recent coalition with the CPN-UML, was thrown into further disarray as NC PP leader Uddhav Thapa tendered his resignation.

The move came as a direct response to Karki’s defiance of the party’s stance, resulting in a controversial partnership with the UML to assume the role of Chief Minister.

Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Whip, Bhupendra Rai, confirmed the meeting of the parliamentary party chaired by the Thapa despite his recent resignation.

Rai emphasized that the primary agenda of the meeting would center around the contentious issue of whether to grant a vote of confidence to Karki.

He further added that subsequent discussions would revolve around the potential participation of the Congress in the newly formed government.

The political climate in Koshi Province intensified when the NC’s decision to appoint Indra Angbo of the Maoist Center as the Chief Minister was disregarded, with a faction of the state assembly members pledging support for Karki alongside the UML party, directly challenging the central power alliance.
