KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has affirmed his intention to take proactive measures, in collaboration with the CPN-UML – the main opposition party – to address the ongoing obstruction in the Parliament.
During a meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar on Friday morning, PM Dahal assured Speaker Devraj Ghimire that he will actively engage with the CPN-UML to alleviate the parliamentary impasse.
“I am committed to playing a pivotal role in putting an end to the parliamentary obstruction. It’s essential for us to find common ground on this matter,” emphasized PM Dahal to Speaker Ghimire.
Within the discussion with Prime Minister Dahal, Speaker Ghimire highlighted that the obstruction within the House has hindered lawmakers from discussing critical issues such as natural disasters.
Speaker Ghimire also apprised PM Dahal that the selection of Chairpersons for the Parliamentary Committees has been stalled due to the Parliament’s inactivity.
Notably, on the preceding day, the CPN-UML opted to boycott the Public Accounts Committee meeting, citing the absence of a duly elected Chairperson.
The UML’s consistent obstruction of the Parliament, driven by their demand for a high-level inquiry commission to investigate the gold smuggling case, has significantly disrupted the process of selecting parliamentary committee leadership.
