Revenue of Rs 50 million raised through passport camp in Portugal

KATHMANDU: Revenue amounting to Rs 52.2 million has been collected from the passport service camp that was operated targeting Nepali immigrants facing passport-related problems in Portugal.

The month-long camp held in Portugal raised the revenue amount, informed Deepak Adhikari, Non-Resident Nepali Ambassador to Portugal and also the Ambassador to France.

A total of 2,308 Nepali people submitted applications for e-passports through the direct registration system.

After completion of the process, passports would be distributed to concerned Nepali immigrants through the Consulate of Nepal in Lisbon.

A team with technical human resources headed by Passport Department’s Section Officer Ranjeeta Dahal provided the passport service to the needy people in coordination and facilitation of the Honorary Consulate of Nepal in Lisbon.

The camp conducted from March 29 through April 25 had collected application forms for new and renewed passports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal had run the camp, especially for Nepali immigrants facing trouble due to the unavailability of passports and other documents.

Ambassador Adhikari shared most of the Nepali immigrants having trouble were benefitted in the camp.

“Lately majority of Nepali people bound to Europe enter Portugal through different countries. Nepali people entering Portugal through different ways are increasingly facing problems related to documents for not being able to secure their passport”, he added.

“Without passport, no document related process is possible in foreign country. This is more problematic in the country where there is no embassy. Therefore, one needs to adopt cautionary measures to keep their passports safe”, Ambassador Adhikari added.
