Both candidates for Speakers vow to run parliament effectively

KATHMANDU: Two major political parties filed candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Devraj Ghimire of CPN UML is the candidate on behalf of ruling alliance while Ishwori Prasad Neupane is from opposition Nepali Congress.

Ghimire reached the office of election officer at parliament secretariat building, New Baneshwor, at 1:00 pm, and Neupane at 4:00pm to file their nominations. The Speaker’s election is being held on Thursday at 11:00 am.

Following the registration, the Speaker candidate from ruling alliance, Ghimire said, “If elected, I will run the parliament meeting in a systematic manner by taking into account the past lesson and consultation and consensus with political parties.”

He further asserted that he would be elected the Speaker and would not let any stone unturned to make the parliament effective. Ghimire said he would deliver his responsibility by rising above party interest.

Similarly, another candidate of Nepali Congress, Neupane also expressed confidence that she would be elected the Speaker. “I’ll deliver my task in a neutral manner, while ensuring justice to lawmakers and parliament.”
