GANDAKI: The seventh edition of the five-a-side futsal tournament has kicked off in Kaski district.
Held every year for the past seven years, the tournament aims to unite the youth of the Newar community of Gandaki Province, said the organizer, Newa: Lyampuch Kaski.
Managed by the Ramkrishna Tole Lyampuch Kaski, a total of 16 teams from Kaski district are participating in the three-day competition at the B-Fit Futsal Ground in Ramakrishna Tole.
Ashok Palikhe, chairperson of the Newa Khal Kaski, said a sports tournament is necessary to increase mutual relations within the Newari community.
Similarly, Dev Krishna Parajuli, ward chair of Pokhara Metropolitan City-4, viewed that such community-level competition plays a role in the production of national players.
Saying such activities are necessary as part of the social responsibility of organizations, President of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pawan Prajapati stressed the need for holding youth-friendly activities to create an environment conductive for the young workforce to engage within the country.
