KATHMANDU: Chairman KP Sharma Oli of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has alleged that the release of former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand was orchestrated through a prearranged understanding.

Speaking at an event during CPN-UML’s Mid-Hill East-West Campaign in Phidim, Panchthar, Oli made these accusations, suggesting that Khand’s release was not a result of a fair legal process but rather influenced by external arrangements.

Oli also expressed his concerns over the non-release of UML leader and former Vice Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamaji, who, like Khand, was arrested in connection with the same case—the fake Bhutanese Refugee Case.

Bal Krishna Khand, a former Home Minister, was granted bail after providing a surety of 4.5 million rupees in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee case and a money laundering case. He had been arrested on May 10, facing serious allegations related to the counterfeit Bhutanese refugee issue.

The comments by Chairman Oli highlight the political sensitivities surrounding high-profile legal cases and the perceptions of political influence in the legal proceedings.
