Massive marijuana haul at TIA: 55 kg seized in international smuggling

In a significant operation, the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Customs Office has seized a total of 55 kilograms of marijuana that was being smuggled into Nepal.

Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted the illicit substance, concealed in 108 boxes, arriving from the United States of America (USA) on Friday night.

Russia denies foreign nationals enlisting in army amidst Nepal’s concerns

In the midst of reports surrounding the Nepali nationals serving in Russian Army, being killed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Office of Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that foreign nationals are not permitted to enlist in the Russian Army.

This statement follows assertions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, claiming that six Nepali nationals serving in the Russian Army lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.

The Office of the Russian President has clarified its position, stating that foreign nationals are not allowed to join the Russian Army, and have no information of Nepali nationals serving in the army.

RPP calls central committee meeting on Sunday

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has announced its central committee meeting to be held in Kathmandu from December 17 to 19.

Party senior leader Rajaram Shrestha stated that the meeting has been convened to ratify the party’s new regulations following discussions on its draft. The gathering is anticipated to result in the reshuffling of roles and responsibilities among some party leaders.

SC to review child sexual assault case against Actor Paul Shah

The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to reexamine the case involving actor Puran Bikram Shah (Paul Shah), accused of child sexual assault—a case previously resolved by the Pokhara High Court.

The joint bench of former Chief Judge Deepak Raj Acharya and Judge Shreedhar Kumar Pudasaini at the high court had previously acquitted Pal Shah.

Unsatisfied with the ruling, the Office of the Attorney General appealed to the Supreme Court, seeking a review.

Govt bans strikes on 25 sectors, including telephone and internet services 

The government has publicly announced the list of sectors where strikes on services are prohibited.

In a notice published in the Gazette on Thursday, the Home Ministry identified various regions where strikes are prohibited as per the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014, Section 3(1).

The government has ordered the prohibition of strikes in essential services, including telephone services, postal services, governmental printing presses, banking services, electricity supply, and consular departments, along with internet services in the designated areas.
