133 gamblers arrested in Kathmandu Valley during Dashain and Tihar

KATHMANDU: In the 20 days following Dashain and leading up to Tihar, police in the Kathmandu Valley took action against illegal activities, resulting in the apprehension of 133 individuals engaged in playing cards and Lagurburja.

The Valley Crime Investigation Office conducted operations at 12 locations in Kathmandu, 2 locations in Bhaktapur, and 2 locations in Lalitpur from October 28 to November 16.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Mainali said that the arrests yielded a recovery of Rs 21,71,335.

Additionally, 69 packs of cards and cheques of Rs 20,000 were confiscated during this period.

Further efforts by the police arrested 32 individuals in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

SSP Neupane disclosed that Rs 12,91,550 was seized in connection with these operations.

In a separate action, the police detained 8 individuals for the illegal use of firecrackers, recovering 344 packets of fireworks during the same time frame.
