Nepal faces second consecutive defeat in four-nation Women’s T20I Series

In the four-nation women’s T20I series in Hong Kong, Nepal encountered its second straight loss as they were defeated by Hong Kong in their second match on Thursday, succumbing by 9 wickets. With this defeat, Nepal’s chances of advancing to the finals have been extinguished, having previously lost to Tanzania by 27 runs in their opening match.

133 gamblers arrested in Kathmandu Valley during Dashain and Tihar

In the 20 days following Dashain and leading up to Tihar, police in the Kathmandu Valley took action against illegal activities, resulting in the apprehension of 133 individuals engaged in playing cards and Lagurburja. The Valley Crime Investigation Office conducted operations at 12 locations in Kathmandu, 2 locations in Bhaktapur, and 2 locations in Lalitpur from October 28 to November 16.

EU provides Euro 2 million in humanitarian aid for Nepal

European Union (EU) has approved a €2 million aid package to bring relief to the most affected people following the earthquake that struck Nepal on November 3. The support package includes €600,000 to support the work of humanitarian partners already providing assistance in affected areas.

Shankar Group’s Hilton Hotel to open in June next year

The five-star Hilton Hotel, a venture of the Shankar Group, is set to open in Kathmandu in June 2024. The opulent Hotel Hilton, constructed under the helm of Jagadamba Hospitality Group Pvt., will operate as part of the globally renowned Hilton brand. An agreement has been reached between Jagadamba and Hilton for the hotel’s management, with a ‘soft launch’ slated for December this year.

Ambassador Khadka presents credentials to Hungarian President

Nepal’s non-resident ambassador to Hungary, Ramkaji Khadka, presented credentials to President Katalin Novak in a special ceremony held at Sandor Prasad, the official office of the Hungarian President. During the ceremony, Ambassador Khadka extended warm wishes for the personal happiness and good health of President Novak.

Commercial banks decreases interest rates

Commercial banks have unveiled their new interest rates for the upcoming month of Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December), marking notable changes in the financial landscape. Out of the 20 banks that disclosed their rates, a majority have opted to decrease deposit interest rates, presenting a shift from the previous month.

Motorcyclist dies as motorcycle collides with a stray buffalo

A motorcyclist died, and another person sustained injuries when their motorcycle collided with a buffalo at Kamal Rural Municipality-3 in Jhapa. The accident, attributed to overspeeding, occurred on Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Madan Bahadur Layamagar, 31, the motorcycle rider, of Sundarharaicha Municipality-4 in Morang district.
