Ruling coalition to hold talks with UML to end parliament impasse
The ruling political factions have reached a consensus to engage in discussions with the CPN-UML, the main opposition party, in order to put an end to the ongoing deadlock in the House of Representatives (HoR). The CPN-UML has been causing disruptions in both the HoR and National Assembly, pressing for the establishment of a high-level committee to probe the 100-quintal gold smuggling case.
Management of airport security needs massive change: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the time has come to overhaul the airport security management citing that it is the first gateway to national security. He stressed on taking concrete steps for stringent security at the airport. “We’re holding serious discussions and evaluating the situation so that past mistakes would not be repeated. Learning from past is essential. Old thoughts, structure, work style and responsibility need change.”
President Paudel urges UML Chair Oli to end House obstruction
President Ram Chandra Paudel has urged CPN-UML Chair KP Oli to play constructively to end the obstruction at the Parliament. During UML Chair Oli’s call on to the President on Wednesday, the President expressed concern about the UML-initiated parliament obstruction. Oli called on President Paudel at the office of the President, Shital Niwas, today.
Gold smuggling case: Four more Chinese nationals arrested
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested 4 more Chinese nationals today in the case of gold smuggling. Police spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Kuber Kadayat informed that they were arrested from different areas of Kathmandu. Three of the arrested are men and one woman. According to DIG Kadayat, 2 of them were arrested when they were going to China from Nepal.
PM Dahal to leave for United States on Sept 16 to attend UNGA
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to be held in the UN headquarters in New York, USA. He is scheduled to leave Kathmandu for the United States of America on September 16.
NEB to hold grade improvement exams for Grade 12 on September 23 and 24
The National Examination Board (NEB) has scheduled supplementary examinations for Grade 12 students aiming to improve their grades on September 23 and 24. According to an official announcement, the NEB has requested students intending to take part in the supplementary examination to complete the application form by September 17.
DPR of Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track amended
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh Expressway has undergone amendments. Prakash Jwala, the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that revisions have been made to the expressway’s DPR with the aim of reducing both cost and time.
Landslide destroys school buildings in Parbat
In the wake of unrelenting rainfall, a landslide triggered by the incessant downpour engulfed two buildings of Thapathana Secondary School, situated in Phalewas Municipality-2 Thapathana in Parbat district. This event was set in motion as a landslide cascaded from the road, descending approximately 50 meters above the school’s premises.
