JANAKPURDHAM: The train service between Jayanagar, India, and Janakpurdham, Nepal is set to be expanded to Bhangaha Bijalpura in Mahottari district.
Today, the extension service will be officially launched by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala.
Currently, the train service operates along a 35 km stretch from Jayanagar to Janakpurdham and Kurtha. With the expansion, the service will cover a distance of 52 km. After a prolonged halt, the train service has been running regularly for the past 15 months.
According to Railways General Manager Niranjan Jha, the train service will now be extended to Bijalpura after the completion of the second phase of physical infrastructure expansion. However, due to disputes over land compensation, the construction of the third phase of railway infrastructure from Bijalpura to Bardibas has been temporarily halted.
The broad gauge two-set train was initially launched on April 2, 2022, and continues to serve passengers on this extended route.
