Fake Bhutanese refugee scam: 16 accused, including Rayamajhi and Khand, sent to pre-trial detention

The District Court Kathmandu has sent all 16  individuals, including former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam to pre-trial detention. Judge Prem Prasad Neupane’s bench decided that 16 be detained. However, the bench directed to release Laxmi Maharjan and Tanka Gurung on bail. The court sought Rs 500 thousand from Maharjan and Rs 1 million from Gurung as the bail amount.

Newly appointed Chief Justice (CJ) Hari Krishna Karki took an oath of office and secrecy on Friday. He took the oath before President Ram Chandra Paudel amidst a ceremony held at the Office of the President.

Rare ‘Tame’ pangolin species found in Gorkha

A rare ‘Tame’ pangolin species has been found at Phalate area of Gandaki rural municipality in Gorkha district, today. The pangolin species is reported to be on the verge of extinction in the world. Forest Officer of Division Forest Office, Rabi Ananda Gopali said the pangolin was found in a pond near the house of a local Prem Kumar Shrestha.

3-yr-boy dies after litchi seed stuck in throat

A three-year-old child died in Sindhuli district last night after a litchi seed stuck in his throat. Kriyan Tamang of Dhurabazaar in Kamalamai Municipality-6 died after the litchi seed jammed on child’s throat stopping the respiration.

Health Ministry orders hospitals to avoid sex-selective ultrasound

The Ministry of Health and Population has directed the health institutions not to carry out any activities to identify the gender of babies in pregnant women. Ministry’s under-secretary Yekdev Khanal has written to the government, private and community health institutions to avoid sex-selective ultrasound adding that such an act was punishable and committing this crime lands an individual to three months to one year in jail.

Around 7,636 Nepali Army personnel stands prepared for disaster management

A total of 7,636 Nepali Army personnel have been kept in ready position for disaster management. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said a total of 2,125 Nepal Police personnel and 1,903 Armed Police Force personnel would be deployed for the disaster risk management.

Disaster Fund has Rs 6 billion in deposit

The Disaster Management Fund of the government has Rs 6 billion in deposit. Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Anil Pokharel said that more than half of the total amount of the Fund is in the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
