KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Justice (CJ) Hari Krishna Karki took an oath of office and secrecy on Friday.

He took the oath before President Ram Chandra Paudel amidst a ceremony held at the Office of the President.

Present on the occasion were Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, chiefs of constitutional bodies, chiefs of security agencies, and dignitaries.

The Constitutional Council had on May 8 recommended him for the appointment in the post of Chief Justice, seeking a parliamentary hearing over it.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee today itself unanimously endorsed the recommendation clearing the way for his appointment as the Chief Justice.

The endorsement of the recommendation followed discussions on complaints registered against him and seeking his responses to those complaints.
