Top leaders’ meeting postponed again

PM Dahal and NC President Deuba did not join Balkot meeting

KATHMANDU: The meeting of top leaders called by Speaker Devraj Ghimire at the residence of CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has been postponed.

The meeting called for 9 am today was postponed after the Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba did not join it.

UML whip Mahesh Bartaula and former Attorney General Ramesh Badal reached Balkot for the meeting.

According to UML leader Bartaula, the Prime Minister informed about his inability to join the meeting around 9.15 am only.

He accused the ruling coalition of not taking the parliament and its issues sincerely.

“The ruling coalition is not serious about important bills under consideration in the parliament, formation of joint committees, etc. and keeps postponing the meeting meant to address such issues,” Bartaula said.

Earlier, the meeting called last Friday was postponed at the request of PM Dahal and NC President Deuba.

According to Shekhar Adhikari, Speaker’s press advisor, Prachanda and Deuba had requested to postpone the meeting for a couple of days.

“The meeting on April 14 was postponed due to the health of KP Oli. After that, the Speaker told us to arrange it in Balkot. And the Prime Minister’s approval was also there,” Shekhar Adhikari, the Press Advisor of Speaker Ghimire said, adding, “Today the Speaker arrived. However, the meeting was adjourned after the Prime Minister and the NC President said they would not join it today.”
