KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal has articulated her commitment to implementing a well-balanced foreign policy with a central focus on the national interest.
Speaking shortly after assuming office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, she affirmed her dedication to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted by the government with utmost sincerity.
“I will conscientiously carry out the responsibilities assigned by the government, with the assistance and support of all my colleagues in the ministry,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to fostering a collaborative team spirit.
In line with the country’s foreign policy, which places importance on both bilateral and multilateral relations, Lamsal highlighted that special attention will be given to relations with neighboring countries.
Addressing a separate matter, the Foreign Secretary expressed her determination to intensify diplomatic efforts for the secure release of Bipin Joshi, reportedly under the control of the terrorist group Hamas.
Lamsal urged individuals seeking foreign employment to avoid illegal channels in countries without labor agreements with Nepal.
She announced the government’s initiative to issue ’employment permits’ to those pursuing opportunities abroad, citing instances where Nepali youths were recruited in the Russian army.
Cautioning against jeopardizing one’s life through informal employment avenues, she underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and legal opportunities for foreign employment.
Lamsal, who previously served as the Nepalese ambassador to Pakistan and deputy head of the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, was promoted to the position of Foreign Secretary following a decision by the Council of Ministers earlier this week.
