Govt to procure 10 new planes to address air travel discrepancy

KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, announced plans to acquire 10 new aircraft within the current year to address the ongoing disparity in airfares.

Minister Kirati emphasized the necessity of expanding the Nepal Airlines Corporation’s fleet to intervene and resolve the escalating issues in air travel pricing.

Minister Kirati stressed that the addition of 10 new aircraft is essential to attract tourists to Nepal, highlighting the importance of this procurement initiative. He further revealed that the formal process for acquiring these aircraft will commence prior to the Dashain festival.

He made these remarks during the receipt of a memorandum presented by the Nepal Student Union (NSU), an organization affiliated with the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) party, at the Ministerial Residence in Pulchowk. The memorandum called for measures to control the black market rental rates during the upcoming festival season.

Minister Kirati also addressed the surging fuel prices, which have contributed to the rising airfare costs. He disclosed that the ministry is actively working on issuing a statement to counteract the black market activities during the festival, aiming to stabilize air travel prices for the benefit of all citizens.
