People flock to New Bus Park in Kathmandu for Dashain festival homecomings

KATHMANDU: A bustling scene unfolded at the New Bus Park in Gongabu as a multitude of people made their way to districts outside the Kathmandu Valley, eagerly heading home to celebrate the revered Bada Dashain festival.

With schools, colleges, and organizations initiating their holiday breaks, the surge of travelers had already begun as of Saturday, marking the onset of the festival fervor.

In preparation for the anticipated rush, the government had initiated the advance booking of bus tickets for the Dashain festival. Pankaj Malla, spokesperson for Lhotse Multipurpose Pvt Ltd, the managing entity of the New Bus Park, stated that over 25,000 passengers were presently embarking daily from the bustling hub.

Malla stated, “The volume of long and medium-route bus travelers is notably high. To manage the surge in passenger numbers, we have adjusted the departure timings of buses from the New Bus Park, both advancing and extending them beyond the usual schedules.”

As many as 60,000 passengers have secured their bus tickets well in advance for the upcoming Dashain celebrations, as reported by Malla.

As the official Dashain holiday commences from October 21 to 25, the New Bus Park is witnessing an exceptional influx of travelers eager to unite with their loved ones for the occasion.
