KATHMANDU: The total weight of the gold imported to the country from Tribhuvan International Airport by evading tax has been recorded as 60.716 kilograms.

The gold was weighed by the Mind Division of the Nepal Rastra Bank on Tuesday. The gold was smuggled and brought to the country from Hong Kong by hiding inside the brake shoes of the motorcycle.

Earlier, the total weight of the goods including the seized gold was 155.468 kgs. On Monday, the actual weight of the gold was recorded as 60.789 kgs after separating brake shoes and packaging cartoons.

The Revenue Investigation Department (RID) confiscated the gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport premises some days ago.

Chief of Mint Division of NRB Thaneshwor Acharya said that the actual weight is now measured at 60.716 kgs adding that the gold looks of good quality. “However, we will complete its quality test in three days,” Acharya added.
