Nepal exports animal feed to China

KATHMANDU: Nepal has exported haylage or animal feed for the first time to China. Haylage produced by Horizon International Pvt. Ltd in Bharatpur has been exported to China.

As the first consignment, 10 containers of haylage produced by the company were sent to China on the first day. Henceforth, 20 containers of animal feed will be sent to China every day, says the company. It targets to export 2000 million tons of animal feed to the city of Shigatse in China in one year.

Chief executive officer of the company, Chang said the company has purchased maize plants from farmers in and around Bharatpur and processed them to make animal feed. Farmers are being provided with advanced varieties of seeds, irrigation systems, and technical support for production.

Chang said that there is a demand for 500 containers of haylage in the Shigatse region of China.

It may be noted that Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality has a sister relationship with Shigatse City. The animal feed export program is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and the Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality.
