IFRC, NDRRMA hold discussion on collaboration to reduce disaster risks

KATHMANDU: A discussion was held between the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on the matter of collaboration and cooperation in reducing and managing disaster risks.

Azmat Ulla, Head of Delegation, IFRC, Nepal and the NDRRMA executive chief Anil Pokharel held a talk on the matter on Thursday.

On the occasion, they stressed the need for increasing efficacy of local levels in Nepal for the effective management of disasters.
Ulla informed about humanitarian service while Pokharel presented a report about latest activities done by the Authority.

The IFRC has been providing assistances and carrying out various humanitarian assistances in Nepal through the Nepal Red Cross Society. Two months ago, it handed 30 new ambulances and 15 upgraded ones to the Nepal Red Cross Society. It cost around 1.2 million Swiss Franc to purchase the ambulances, said the IFRC.

Similarly, it provided assistances during COVID-19 and earthquakes. It has continued to provide supports to the Nepal Red Cross Society for carrying out vaccination programs in 22 districts of the country, it said.

More than 150,000 volunteering for the Red Cross Society have been engaged in social work across the country, it has been shared.
