KATHMANDU: In a significant development, the police have apprehended a sanitation supervisor employed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in connection with a 14 kg gold smuggling case.
The arrest comes as part of an ongoing investigation led by a committee comprising Custom Officer Mani Ram Poudel, Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Prasad Subedi, Custom Officer Prakash Niraula, Dilli Prasad Sharma, and Officer Manju Thapa.
Previously, officials had arrested Chandra Ghale and Min Bahadur Ghale from Gorkha, the individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling operation. The arrest followed the discovery by Tribhuvan Customs Office officials, who found gold cleverly shaped like biscuits concealed on both sides of Chandra Ghale’s chest. The gold was meticulously wrapped in cloth and shoes.
During the investigation, Chandra Ghale disclosed that the plan was to discard the gold in a dustbin in the arrival section and retrieve it outside the airport. This revelation led to the subsequent arrest of the sanitation supervisor.
