RPP holding mass assembly in Kanchanpur amid tightened security measures

KANCHANPUR: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is holding a mass assembly in Kanchanpur today, with stringent security arrangements in place.

The event, scheduled to take place at Bhimdutta Municipality-4 Mahendranagar Bazar, has undergone meticulous preparations, as confirmed by RPP Kanchanpur.

Efforts are underway by RPP Kanchanpur to bring key party leaders, including RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden, to Mahendranagar for the unveiling of the statue of King Mahendra at the Mahendra Smarak Chowk.

RPP leaders, including Rabindra Mishra, Dhawal Shumsher Rana, and Gyanendra Shahi are slated to address the assembly.

However, logistical challenges have prompted a change in the assembly’s venue.

Originally planned for Smarak Chowk, the event is taking place at the vegetable marker road near due to a dispute and concerns surrounding security.

The alteration in venue follows a warning of prohibitory orders in Mahendranagar, citing security sensitivities.

The administration, responding to protests by republican parties against the unveiling of Mahendra’s statue, opted not to permit the event at Smarak Chowk.

RPP’s decision to establish Mahendra’s statue in Bhimdattanagar has stirred controversy, with eight republican parties opposing the move.

Acknowledging potential security risks, Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari emphasized the tightened security measures, stating, “The security system has been intensified to avert any untoward incident. Following the dispute at the memorial square, the program has been relocated as per the administration’s directives.”
