PM Dahal justifies TikTok ban as a measure to tackle social chaos

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has defended the recent ban on the popular social network TikTok, asserting that the decision was reached through extensive deliberations and with the consensus of all political parties. Speaking at a program in Bhaktapur on the occasion of Nepal Sambat, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the necessity of controlling social chaos for the benefit of society.

NTA warns of action against ISPs failing to shut down TikTok

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued a stern warning, signaling its intent to take action against internet service providers (ISPs) that fail to promptly shut down the popular social media platform TikTok. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the NTA directed all ISPs and mobile service providers to enforce the immediate shutdown of TikTok.

KMC Mayor Balen calls for regulation instead of TikTok shutdown

Balen Shah, the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has emphasized the need to establish a mechanism for punishing individuals disrupting social harmony on TikTok rather than resorting to outright closure. Expressing his hope that the current TikTok shutdown could pave the way for effective regulation, Mayor Shah envisions a dignified relaunch of the platform.

Ban on TikTok is violation of constitutional freedom: Stakeholders

Stakeholders have strongly asserted that the recent prohibition on the popular social network TikTok constitutes a significant infringement upon the constitutional freedom granted to citizens. This condemnation comes in response to the government’s decision to impose a ban on TikTok usage in Nepal. A joint statement issued by approximately 30 organizations, including the Digital Freedom Coalition, Digital Rights Nepal, Center for Media Research, and the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) characterized the government’s action as untimely and arbitrary.

42 people arrested in Kanchanpur for gambling

In a crackdown on illicit gambling activities, Kanchanpur police arrested 42 individuals from various locations in the district. The arrests took place during a special operation aimed at curbing gambling during the festival season. Police raided the residence of Bhim Bahadur Thagunna in Bhimdatta Municipality-17 Banskheda, resulting in the arrest of 28 individuals along with a significant amount of cash last night.

Police teams dispatched from Swayambhu and Sankhu have arrested a substantial number of gamblers. The Police Circle in Swayambhu arrested a gambler with Rs 4 lakhs in cash, confiscating the money from gambling dens in the area on Tuesday.

48 people injured in Jajarkot earthquake discharged from hospital after treatment

Forty-eight among those people injured in the earthquake occurred in Jajarkot on November 3 and admitted to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj have returned home after receiving treatment and recuperating. Now, only six injured patients from Jajarkot and Rukum West are under treatment at the Bheri Hospital, said Naresh Shrestha, the resource person at the District Emergency Operation Centre, Banke.

Korala check point opens for all Mustang folks

Residents of all local levels in Mustang district can now travel across the Chinese border. Earlier, only locals of Lomanthang and Loghekar rural municipalities of Mustang had permit to go to China via Korala check point. The check point, which was closed due to coronavirus pandemic, was brought into operation from Monday after four years.
