KATHMANDU: Gita Basnet, a member of parliament representing the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) says the parliamentarians should protect the dignity of parliament, the country’s highest public representative body.

In a dialogue with RSS, MP Basnet said that all the MPs should unite for the sake of the country and the people after coming to the Parliament. “During the elections, the flags may have been hoisted differently. But after going to the parliament, we should raise our voice in favor of the people and the country,” she said.

MP Basnet believes that the current parliamentary practice does not meet the expectations of the people. Since small and big parties are equally important to make parliamentary practice successful, all parliamentarians should rise above political interests for the prosperity of the country.

Calling for a comprehensive discussion on the bills presented in the House, she said the bill presented in the House is not only of the government but of the country. Hence, there should be a comprehensive discussion to introduce laws that are favorable to the interests of the country and the people.

She lamented that issues related to corruption scandals and the implementation of the rule of law are not being seriously discussed in the House. Basnet also said that there is no other option than to join hands to eliminate the disturbances that has been spreading in the country for the past few days.

A central member of the RPP, Basnet said anarchy has spread in the name of religion and culture. But the government has failed to maintain peace and good governance in the country.
