Route permits open for public transport

KATHMANDU: The government has opened route permits for public vehicles.

The provision has been made to ease the travel of the public for the upcoming festival of Dashain.

As a result, passenger vehicles are not required to have route permits to provide service in any part of the country, according to the Department of Transport Management.

The provision will remain in effect until October 27. Likewise, the entry of large goods carrier vehicles including trailers, except those transporting food and other essential items, has been banned from entering the Kathmandu Valley.

It may be noted that advance ticket bookings for public transport have already been open from October 9 with the aim of facilitating the passengers going home for the Dashain festival.

More than two million people are expected to leave the federal capital to their respective hometowns and villages to celebrate Dashain, one of the greatest festivals of the majority of Hindus in the country.
