KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced a planned three-day electricity outage that will affect certain areas of Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
The temporary disruption, it said, is necessary to facilitate crucial upgrades and maintenance work in the area’s power infrastructure.
The NEA has scheduled the shutdown of the Siuchatar-Teku transmission line, which plays a pivotal role in the distribution of electricity in the area.
The outage will commence at 8 am on Friday and is expected to last until 8 am on Monday.
During this time, essential upgrades to the Teku substation will be conducted, along with recharging the Teku Siuchatar 66 KV line.
In addition to the Siuchatar-Teku line, two other vital transmission lines will also be temporarily closed.
The 66 KV Siuchatar-Patan transmission line will be offline from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and the 66 KV Siuchatar-K3 line will experience a brief shutdown from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday.
The scheduled maintenance and upgrades may result in electricity interruptions in various parts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur, NEA said.
Specifically, areas under the Kuleshwar distribution center, such as Tahachal and Chamti feeders, and those under the Pulchowk distribution center, including Pulchowk, Bagmati, and Ring Road, are expected to experience temporary power cuts during peak load times.
The affected feeders under the Ratnapark Distribution Center, which draw power from the Teku and K3 substations and related switching stations (Thapathali and Sundhara), may also experience brief disruptions.
Likewise, the NEA has urged residents supplied by the Patan substation under the 66 KV Siuchatar-Patan transmission line to prepare for potential power cuts during peak load hours.
To mitigate the impact on residents, the NEA has pledged to make alternative arrangements to ensure a consistent power supply.
Moreover, if the maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule, power will be restored to the affected areas sooner than anticipated.
The NEA remains committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring the reliable supply of electricity to its consumers, it added.
