KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” is set to embark on a significant diplomatic journey, planning visits to the United States and China. His schedule adjustment comes in response to the alteration of his speech timing at the UN General Assembly.
The upcoming Asian Games, commencing on September 23 in China, prompted an invitation to PM Dahal to attend the event’s opening ceremony. This invitation coincided with his earlier commitment to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Negotiations ensued to harmonize the scheduling conflicts.
According to Prime Minister’s Secretariat sources, Malaysia has agreed to swap speaking slots, allowing Prime Minister to address the General Assembly on September 18.” The initial date had been September 22.
Following his address on September 18, sources indicate that PM Dahal intends to conduct high-level meetings before potentially proceeding directly to China from the US. China’s eagerness for his visit has been long-standing, with earlier attempts being deferred in favor of diplomatic ties with India.
