NC Parliamentary Party calls for govt agency probe into quintal gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party has announced its decision to support an investigation into the high-profile quintal gold smuggling case via a government agency.

The decision comes after a series of discussions within the party meeting, during which calls were made for the establishment of a high-level inquiry committee. However, the final consensus was in favor of entrusting the task to a governmental investigative body.

“The issue of quintal gold smuggling from the heavily monitored Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) demands serious attention. The scale of gold disappearing from a location under close surveillance is deeply concerning. Such illicit activities must be halted,” NC Chief whip Ramesh Lekhak asserted. “Whoever is implicated must face legal repercussions. With the involvement of government agencies in the inquiry, the responsible parties should be held accountable, and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) should assume the investigative role.”
