All parties should decide prudently on next presidential candidate: Jhalanath Khanal

DHANGADHI:  Former Prime Minister and senior leader of CPN-Unified Socialist Jhalanath Khanal has suggested to all the political parties to make decision on the election of the President in a prudent manner.

“The election of President is an important decision. All the political parties should elect an impeccable person to the high post adopting prudence, farsightedness and respecting the spirit of the constitution,” he said, addressing a press conference organized by the Socialist Press Organization, Kailali in Dhangadi on Tuesday.

Leader Khanal urged all the political parties to move ahead in a coordinated manner on this issue. He said the CPN (Unified Socialist) would also give candidate for the President if necessary on the basis of agreement among the political parties.

The former Prime Minister insisted that a person with a political background should occupy the post of President, saying electing a apolitical person on the high-post will land democracy itself in trouble. He also ruled out the possibility of a formation of a new alliance in place of the current CPN (UML)-led ruling coalition.
