KATHMANDU: Agitating transport workers on Tuesday morning halted public transportation in Kathmandu Valley against what they said “New Buspark contractor Lhotse company’s arbitrary” attitude, and police actions.”
Nepal Transport Independent Workers’ Organization, All Nepal Transport Workers’ Union and Nepal Transport Workers’ Union called for public transport shutdown on Tuesday.
They have accused the government of not implementing the agreement reached between the government and the transport workers.
Bhim Jwala Rai, President of Nepal Transport Independent Workers’ Organization, said that they were compelled to call a strike of public transport due to the government’s indifference towards their demands.
They have also accused the traffic police of unnecessarily giving them trouble under various pretexts.
Meanwhile, the government has called the agitating transport workers for talks.
The Department of Transport called for talks after transport workers’ associations and organizations protested in the Balaju Bus Park area putting forth various demands.
Director General of the Department Tulsi Gautam said all problems can be solved through talks and called the agitating workers to come to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for talks on Tuesday morning by suspending all its protest programs.
“We urge all parties to maintain restrain, and we are ready to discuss all pre-announced and demands,” he said.
