Property worth Rs 4.9 million gutted in Dhankuta fire



DHANKUTA: Property worth Rs 4.9 million gutted in a fire occurred last night at Sindhuwa bazaar of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality in Dhankuta district, the District Police Office, Dhankuta, said.

Five houses were destroyed in the fire that broke out from a fresh house run by Lalita Rai in the rented house of local Santa Bahadur Rai. Reasons for the fire are still not clear.

Property worth Rs 3.7 million including two tola gold and Rs 200,000 in cash of Santa Bahadur was gutted in the fire while some property of Dik Bahadur Khadka and Hom Bahadur Thapa also destroyed in the fire, police said.

Likewise, property equal to Rs 500,000 including two tola gold and Rs 70,000 in cash was destroyed in the house of Jhamak from the fire while locals Arjun Ghimire and Dambar Thapa also suffered losses from the fire.

Chairman of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality Chhatra Subba said that preparations were ongoing to provide relief to the victims by deploying a disaster management team of the rural municipality.
