KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued instructions to internet service providers to cease operations of TikTok.

Following the Council of Ministers’ decision on Monday, the Authority has officially communicated with internet service provider companies to initiate the shutdown of the TikTok app, as stated by Achyutananda Mishra, the assistant spokesperson of the authority.

The central office has also been informed about the impending closure of TikTok.

“We have corresponded with all internet service providers, instructing them to shut down TikTok. We have also notified TikTok’s headquarters. We acted promptly upon the government’s decision, and TikTok will be closed within 24 hours,” he stated.

The government’s move to shut down TikTok has sparked significant opposition on social media.
