KATHMANDU: Rajendra Lingden, Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has criticized the government’s decision to ban TikTok, labeling it as an autocratic move.

Taking to Facebook, Lingden expressed his dissent, stating, “This decision reflects autocratic tendencies.”

He emphasized the principle that freedom of expression should not be curtailed under any pretext. Lingden warned that the prohibition of TikTok is just the initial step, suggesting that platforms like Twitter and Facebook could also face potential bans in the future.

“This is just the beginning; we might witness bans on X (Twitter), Facebook, and others in the days to come. I strongly oppose any restrictions on freedom of expression under any pretext,” declared Chair Lingden.

He further called for the immediate reversal of the TikTok ban, advocating for the need to regulate and control potential distortions caused by social media, but firmly asserting that bans should not be the solution under the guise of regulation.
