KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the government has a policy to make all sports infrastructures disability-friendly.

Responding to queries raised on the resolution proposal related to the implementation of rights of persons with disabilities tabled in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Dahal shared that the arrangement of training for the athletes participating in the coming Paralympics would be made further effective.

“I want to inform the House that the government has put a program of providing grants for the management of proper and sufficient sports materials in high priority”, he mentioned.

The Prime Minister further shared that arrangements have been made to provide grants to respective sports associations to organize province and district-level championships giving continuity to national-level Para and special sports championships.

“Differently-abled persons will be nominated as the members of the National Sports Council as per the recommendation of the Paralympic Committee. I will make special efforts to make arrangements to include differently-abled persons in the committees related to youth and sports”, he stressed.

Stating that the government was committed to carrying out result-oriented activities with the collaboration of local government as per their capability and interest, Prime Minister Dahal viewed that the government has put the labor and employment-related rights of differently-abled persons at special priority.

“Persons with disabilities will be fully prioritized under the Prime Minister Employment Program, the youth self-employment program and the poverty alleviation program. The government has a policy of effectively implementing such programs in the days to come,” said PM Dahal.

Informing that there would be a provision that gives a heavy discount on customs duty on the import of raw materials for industries run by disabled people, he shared that the products they have produced would be protected in particular while pledging to provide support to them to live an independent life.

PM Dahal expressed, “The government pledges to do its best to protect the rights of persons with disabilities to health and education. Arrangements will be made for them to get free health insurance from local levels and health and hygiene materials from local health institutions”, mentioning that the government was concerned about the health and education of disabled persons.

Saying that the government was committed to implementing verdicts on the rights of people with disabilities delivered by the Supreme Court at various dates, he added that the government was well aware and sensitive about making way for them to get justice.
