UML Madhes province committee elects new leadership unopposed

JANAKPURDHAM: Unlike the often rivaling contest in other provinces, all office-bearers of the CPN-UML Madhes province committee have been chosen unopposed.

Saroj Yadav, a UML central member, confirmed the appointment of Chandeshwar Mandal from Siraha as the committee’s chairman. Mandal’s nomination was proposed by Politburo member Leela Nath Shrestha.

Bichari Yadav, formerly aligned with the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction in the party and a former Constituent Assembly member from Parsa, has been elected as the vice-chairman. UML Secretary and Koshi in-charge Raghubir Mahaseth reportedly put forth Yadav’s name for the position.

Manoj Paudel, a Bara representative, will serve as the secretary. Sources within UML indicate his proximity to Politburo member Purushottam Paudel.

Arati Bhandari from Rautahat and Mohammad Qais from Dhanusha have been appointed as deputy secretaries. Bhandari had previously held this position.

The UML Madhes province convention, which commenced in Janakpur on Wednesday, is tasked with electing a 235-member committee. Chairman Mandal has stated that the committee’s composition will be finalized by Friday evening.
